OUR PASTOR is Rev Richard von Steinman. He serves our church, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Carlsbad, and Immanuel Lutheran in Artesia, a town 36 miles north of Carlsbad.

EDUCATION:   Richard attended the University of Oklahoma to study Chemical Engineering for two years before feeling the overwhelming call to become a Pastor. He completed his undergraduate degree in History with an emphasis in the Pre-Seminary track at Concordia College, Seward, Nebraska. He then attended Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and vicared in Lincoln Park, Michigan, at Calvary Lutheran Church and School. Pastor graduated in August of 2001 earning his Master of Divinity degree.

FAMILY AND MISCELLANEOUS:  Pastor Richard grew up in Northeastern Oklahoma in Claremore, a suburb of Tulsa. He likes to boast that this is the Green country of Oklahoma; it has a lot of hills, trees and, of course, green grass much like to Ozarks of southwestern Missouri. Pastor Richard met Monica in the fall of 1993 at Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska, where she to was working on her Bachelors of Art’s degree in Behavioral Science. They were married on May 28, 1994, by her father, Pastor Douglas Young, in Sioux City, Iowa, where her father was the senior Pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church. After graduation they moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he entered Concordia Theological Seminary to continue his studies for the ministry. Pastor’s first call was to Trinity Lutheran Church and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, and McGregor, Iowa. These are two small river towns right on the Mississippi River. While there, they were blessed with their daughter Katherine Elisabeth (Katie) born on March 13, 2003. Daughter Mikayla Alyssa Marie was born on February 6, 2005.  They are both true blessings to the growing family.

In Pastor’s spare time you will find him either playing with Katie, at the computer (he loves computers!), or reading a book. Monica likes to read and wander about the great outdoors, so she tends to pester Pastor to go someplace with her and Katie!
